After 8-Month Closure for Renovations

Basilica of Guadalupe Reopens to Pilgrims

The Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City has reopened to pilgrims after an eight-month closure for renovations. The basilica, which is one of the most important religious sites in Mexico, has undergone a major renovation project that included the restoration of the basilica's facade, roof, and interior.

The basilica was closed to pilgrims in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The closure was extended several times as the pandemic continued. The basilica reopened to pilgrims on December 12, 2020, the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The basilica is open to pilgrims from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm daily. Pilgrims are required to wear face masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
