Attack on anti-Islam rally participants prompts State Security investigation

Suspect in custody after rampage in front of Aufklärung gegen den politischen Islam event

Mannheim, Germany – A knife attack on participants of an anti-Islam rally in Mannheim has left six people injured, including Islam critic and rally organizer AfD politician, Dirk Spaniel.

The incident occurred on May 2024, shortly before the start of the "Aufklärung gegen den politischen Islam" (Enlightenment against Political Islam) rally.

The State Security division has taken over the investigation. A suspect has been taken into custody, and the Karlsruhe Public Prosecutor's Office has issued an arrest warrant.
